Big employers often file weeks before they announce, small ones often file and never make the news at all, and plenty of announcements cover global headcount that never touches a US filing. Neither number is a national total. The filings cover the states that publish machine-readable data, which this page names, and the announcements cover what reached two newsrooms in the last day.
