Enter your pay, how often you are paid and your Form W-4 choices, and this Idaho paycheck calculator shows your 2026 take-home pay. It follows the State Tax Commission's percentage computation method, a flat 5.3% of the pay above $16,100 a year for a single employee or $32,200 for a married one, and works out the employer's side of the bill under it.

## Idaho withholds a flat 5.3% of pay above $16,100 a year for a single employee, and $32,200 for a married one.

The Table for Percentage Computation Method of Withholding has one rule for each pay period. Biweekly, nothing is withheld on pay up to $619 for a single employee (head of household included) or $1,238 for a married one, and the tax is 5.3% of the amount over it. The no-tax amounts are the yearly $16,100 and $32,200 divided by the pay periods and rounded to the dollar. There are no brackets, and allowances no longer reduce the pay.

## A $60,000 Idaho salary takes home $1,848.07 every two weeks.

The calculator opens on this case: a single employee on a standard Form W-4, paid every two weeks, with no pre-tax deductions.

- Gross pay: $60,000 ÷ 26 = $2,307.69
- Federal income tax: $193.08
- Idaho income tax: ($2,307.69 − $619) × 5.3% = $89.50, rounded to $90.00
- Social Security: 6.2% × $2,307.69 = $143.08; Medicare: 1.45% = $33.46
- Take-home pay: $1,848.07 a paycheck, $48,049.88 a year

_Figure: Bar chart for a single employee on a $60,000 salary, paid every two weeks, paid 26 times a year. Federal income tax: $5,020 · 8.4%; Social Security: $3,720 · 6.2%; Medicare: $870 · 1.4%; Idaho income tax: $2,340 · 3.9%; Take-home pay: $48,050 · 80.1%._

A single employee on a $60,000 salary, paid every two weeks. Invented example. Each tax is rounded to the cent in every paycheck, as payroll does.

## The status on the ID W-4 is the only choice that changes the tax, from $57.00 to $90.00.

Box A is single or head of household, box B is married with one job and a spouse who does not work, and box C is married but withholding at the Single rate, for a couple who both work or a person filing separately. A married employee with no other income has $57.00 withheld from the $60,000 example, and box C is the same as single, $90.00. The children counted in the allowances box once lowered the pay the tax is figured on; with the credit gone they are worth zero.

_Figure: Bar chart of the Idaho income tax withheld from one biweekly paycheck on a $60,000 salary: A: single (or head of household): $90.00; B: married: $57.00; C: married, but withhold at the Single rate: $90.00._

Invented example: a $60,000 salary, paid every two weeks, no pre-tax deductions. The federal Form W-4 status changes along with the box.

## Idaho rounds every paycheck's tax to the whole dollar, so the share of pay climbs in small steps.

The first $16,100 of a single employee's year is not taxed, so a $20,000 salary has $208.00 withheld over the year, rounding each paycheck to the dollar, and a $150,000 salary $7,098.00, while the rate on the next dollar is 5.3% at both.

_Figure: Bar chart of the Idaho income tax withheld in a year as a share of pay, single, paid every two weeks: $20,000: 1.04% ($208); $30,000: 2.43% ($728); $60,000: 3.90% ($2,340); $100,000: 4.45% ($4,446); $150,000: 4.73% ($7,098)._

Invented salaries, single, paid every two weeks, no pre-tax deductions.

## The tables were revised in July 2026 after the Idaho Child Tax Credit ended.

On July 31, 2026 the State Tax Commission told employers it had updated the withholding tables because the credit sunset under Idaho Code section 63-3029L, and that the revised tables apply going forward without adjusting earlier pay. The percentage table is dated 07-23-2026. This calculator uses it for every paycheck of the year.

## A 401(k) lowers Idaho withholding by $8.00 a paycheck.

The Commission says 401(k) and cafeteria plan benefits that the Internal Revenue Code treats as tax deferred are also tax deferred for Idaho and are not subject to withholding. A 401(k) deferral of 6% on the $60,000 example is $138.46 a paycheck, and take-home pay falls by only $113.84. Social Security and Medicare still apply to a 401(k) deferral.

_Figure: Bar chart of the tax withheld from one biweekly paycheck on a $60,000 salary, single: Federal tax, no 401(k): $193.08; Federal tax, 6% 401(k): $176.46; Idaho tax, no 401(k): $90.00; Idaho tax, 6% 401(k): $82.00._

Invented example: a $60,000 salary, single, paid every two weeks. 6% of pay is $138.46 a paycheck.

## Hiring that employee costs $65,215 a year in Idaho.

On top of the $60,000, the employer matches Social Security and Medicare at 6.2% and 1.45%, which is $4,590. It pays federal unemployment tax of 0.6% on the first $7,000, which is $42. A new Idaho employer pays unemployment tax at 1% on the first $58,300 of pay, which is $583.00. The employee pays nothing toward it.

_Figure: Bar chart of the employer's taxes on an employee on a $60,000 salary: Employer Social Security $3,720; Employer Medicare $870; Idaho unemployment $583; Federal unemployment (FUTA) $42. Together $5,215, for a total cost of $65,215 a year._

## Take-home pay in Idaho runs from $33,046 on $40,000 to $106,693 on $150,000.

For a single employee, paid every two weeks. At $100,000 the year's take-home is $74,734. For the neighbor to the west, see the [Washington paycheck calculator](https://www.teampredict.ai/tools/paycheck-calculator/washington).

## Frequently asked questions

How does Idaho work out the income tax taken from my paycheck?

With the State Tax Commission's percentage computation method: nothing is withheld up to a printed amount for your pay period ($619 biweekly for a single employee, $1,238 for a married one), and above it the tax is 5.3% of the excess, rounded to the nearest whole dollar. For a $60,000 salary that is $2,307.69 less $619, $1,688.69, times 5.3%, $89.50, which rounds to $90.00 a paycheck.

How much is $60,000 a year after tax in Idaho?

For a single employee on a standard Form W-4 who is paid every two weeks, a $60,000 salary takes home $1,848.07 a paycheck, or $48,049.88 a year. The year's taxes are $5,020.08 of federal income tax, $2,340.00 of Idaho income tax, $3,720.08 of Social Security and $869.96 of Medicare.

How much is $20 an hour after tax in Idaho?

At 40 hours a week and weekly pay, $20 an hour is $800.00 gross and $658.72 take-home a week for a single employee. That is $54.08 of federal income tax, $26.00 of Idaho income tax, $49.60 of Social Security and $11.60 of Medicare. Switch to hourly in the calculator to type your own hours, including overtime.

What do I put on the Idaho Form ID W-4?

Employers must have a federal Form W-4 for every employee, and the Commission strongly encourages the most recent Form ID W-4 for Idaho. The ID W-4 asks for a withholding status (A for single or head of household, B for married filing jointly with one job and a spouse who does not work, C for a married couple who both work or married filing separately) and a number of allowances, which is the children in your household age 16 or under on December 31 plus 2 if you file as head of household, with none for yourself or your spouse. Allowances no longer change anything: the Idaho Child Tax Credit has sunset, so the allowance amount is zero. On the $60,000 example, status B has $57.00 withheld and A or C $90.00.

Why did Idaho change its withholding tables in July 2026?

The State Tax Commission announced on July 31, 2026 that it had updated the withholding tables because the Idaho Child Tax Credit has sunset under Idaho Code section 63-3029L. Employers do not need to adjust withholding back to the beginning of the year and should use the revised tables going forward, as the Commission says it does with any new table issued partway through a year. This calculator uses the revised table for the whole of 2026.

How does Idaho tax a bonus?

An employer can either combine a bonus with the regular wages and treat it as one payment, or multiply a separately issued bonus by 5.3%. The Commission says the tax applies to bonuses, commissions, overtime pay, severance, awards, back pay and similar pay earned in Idaho. This calculator treats all pay as regular pay, and the bonus tax calculator works out the bonus case.

What does a 401(k) do to my Idaho paycheck?

It lowers the tax. The Commission says benefits such as 401(k) plans and cafeteria plans that the Internal Revenue Code treats as tax deferred are also tax deferred for Idaho and are not subject to withholding. Putting 6% of a $60,000 salary into a 401(k) ($138.46 a paycheck) cuts Idaho withholding by $8.00 and take-home pay by only $113.84.

Is Idaho's withholding rounded?

Yes. The percentage computation and annualized methods both say to round to the nearest whole dollar, so an Idaho line on a pay stub never has cents, and the wage bracket tables print whole dollars. A small difference in pay can therefore move the withholding by a dollar: $89.50 is withheld as $90.00.

Who pays unemployment tax in Idaho, and how much is it?

The employer does, to the Department of Labor, and nothing comes out of your paycheck for it. In 2026 the taxable wage base rises from $55,300 to $58,300 per worker, the third highest of any state in the Labor Department's January 2026 chart, and the new employer rate stays at 1%, the lowest rate federal conformity allows. That is $583 a year for an employee paid $60,000. Idaho is not on the Labor Department's list of states with a 2026 federal credit reduction.
